State Certification Requirements for Teachers of Latin

Ohio

Certification Terminology:

Educator License in a Classical Language, Latin

Grade Level of Certification:

PreK-12

7-12

Degree Requirement:

B.A.

Subject Matter Requirements:

Latin major equivalent

Professional Training in Education Required:

Yes

Subject Test:

No Latin subject test. However, Praxis I must be taken.

 

Additional Requirements for Advanced Certification:

A. Professional Educator License

  1. Successful completion of the Transition Resident Educator Program, including mentoring and formative assessment.

B. Senior Professional Educator License

  1. Master’s Degree.
  2. Nine (9) years of licensed teaching experience, 5 of which must be under the Professional Educator License.
  3. Successful Completion of the Master Teacher Portfolio.

C. Lead Professional Educator License

  1. Master’s Degree.
  2. Nine (9) years of licensed teaching experience, 5 of which must be under the Professional Educator or Senior Professional Educator License.
  3. Successful Completion of the Master Teacher Portfolio AND attainment of the Teacher Leader Endorsement OR active National Board Certification.
