State Certification Requirements for Teachers of Latin

Certification Terminology:

Initial Certificate in Latin

Grade Level of Certification:

7-12

Degree Requirement:

B.A.

Subject Matter Requirements:

30 credits

Professional Training in Education Required:

Yes, 21 credits.

Subject Test:

Yes, Content Specialty Test (CST)—Latin and Classical Humanities. Applicants must also take Liberal Arts & Science Test (LAST) and Secondary Assessment of Teaching Skills (ATS-W) exam.

Additional Requirements for Advanced Certification:

1. A valid Initial Certificate.

2. Two (2) years of documented classroom teaching experience.

3. Master’s degree.
