State Certification Requirements for Teachers of Latin

New Mexico

Certification Terminology

Licensure (Level I) with an endorsement in Latin

Grade Level of Certification:

K-12

Degree Requirement:

B.A.

Subject Matter Requirements:

24 credits

Professional Training in Education Required:

Yes

Subject Test:

No Latin subject test. All applicants must take the New Mexico Teacher Assessments (Basic Skills and Teacher Competency)

Additional Requirements for Advanced Certification:

A. Level II Licensure

  1. Three (3) years of successful teaching at Level I.
  2. Successful completion of a formal mentoring program.3. Submission of a Professional Development Dossier compiled according to state guidelines.

B. Level III Licensure

  1. Three (3) years of successful teaching at Level II.
  2. Master's degree or advanced certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
