State Certification Requirements for Teachers of Latin

Certification Terminology

Professional Certification, Foreign Language

Grade Level of Certification:

K-12

Degree Requirement:

B.A.

Subject Matter Requirements:

30 credits

Professional Training in Education Required:

Yes

Subject Test:

No designated Latin subject test. Must take Praxis II Principles of Learning and Teaching test.

 

Additional Requirements for Advanced Certification:

  1. Four (4) years of approved teaching experience.
  2. Development and implementation of a professional development plan that is on file with the district.
  3. Successful completion of a two-year mentor assistance program.
  4. Participation in a beginning teacher assistance program.
  5. Thirty (30) hours of documented contact hours of appropriate professional development.
  6. Successful yearly performance-based evaluations.

*Note: Individuals who complete two of the three following items, are not required to report the professional development to the Department:

  1. Ten years of certified experience
  2. A master’s degree
  3. National certification from a recognized agency
