2012 Abstract Book Instructions

This year, content for the printed abstract book and the electronic version posted on the APA website will be generated from the information initially submitted to the Program Committee via the online collection system.  For most speakers, that means that no further action is required on their part. If a speaker submitted any changes to be made to name or paper title in the Program, those changes will also be made to the printed abstract book and the online version.

Speakers can submit requests for changes to their abstracts to apameetings@sas.upenn.edu by October 15, 2011.  Please note that substantive changes to the abstract are not allowed:  the printed abstract must be the same as the one originally submitted to the Program Committee. Only minor changes to name and paper title, or the correction of a typo, are permitted.  Changes should be listed in the body of your email; attachments will not be read. As in prior years, abstracts only will appear: bibliographies will not be published.

Please see additional guidelines below pertaining to specific submission types:

  • At-Large Panels, Seminars, and Committee Panels.  Any changes should be submitted by the organizer per the above instructions. Panel organizers should note that it is their responsibility to collect any changes and forward them to the APA office. We will not write directly to the individual speakers in these panels.
  • Organizer-Refereed Panels and Affiliated Group Panels. Because organizers of these panels do their own vetting independently of the APA Program Committee, they did not submit abstracts via the online collection system. To ensure that a panel's abstracts are included in both the printed abstract book and the electronic version posted on the APA website, organizers should email the abstracts as individual attachments to apameetings@sas.upenn.edu by October 15, 2011. All abstracts must be submitted via email to this address; DO NOT mail abstracts to the APA office or email them to the APA Information Architect. The name of the session should be included in the body of the email.  Abstracts may be submitted as Word documents or pdf files. As in prior years, abstracts only will appear: bibliographies will not be published. Panel organizers should note that it is their responsibility to collect the abstracts and forward them as a group to the APA office. We will not write directly to the individual speakers in these panels.
  • Individual Abstracts.  Also new for this year:  your session presider will make contact with you in the fall. S/he will require a complete draft of your paper by December 15 and will facilitate sharing of papers among panel participants. Presiders are encouraged to inform the Program Committee of any presenter who fails to comply.  In that event, the Program Committee will permit the paper to be listed in the Program and so read by title only, but not to be presented viva voce at the Annual Meeting. Submissions selected for the new poster session are exempt from this requirement.

Please feel free to contact the APA office at apameetings@sas.upenn.edu with any questions.
